The good thing about insurrections and societal breakdowns in general is that they are an excellent opportunity to practice mindfulness. I'll share with you that when the world seems to be burning down and there is nothing positive to read about, I for one choose to watch logging videos on YouTube.
Many of you will accuse me of hiding my head in the sand with respect to the toxic political discourse in this country during these "unprecedented times." I actually had long time friends on social media declaring their inability to continue relationships over politics based on affiliation. Really, dear friends, have a little faith here...this too shall pass....we have an incredible country and a system of government that is unrivaled in the world (and I've seen a lot of our alternatives up close and personal).
Soooooooooo, I could get sucked into endless threads of hate and discontent with personal convictions, but choose instead to practice mindfulness and remember that the people with whom I have NOTHING in common politically are still my friends. Forever. It takes more than an election and the ass clowns in Washington to separate my affections and loyalty from the people I know so well (and love anyway).
Mindfulness. "Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us." If you haven't watched a good logging videos lately; I mean the really good ones with skidders, harvesters, mud and trucks, give it a try. The good news is that it is NOT CNN, MSNBC, FOX or any other news outlet. It's just hard working people making a living with cool machines.
In closing, take a breath, get off social media and while you're at it, step away from the news for a day or two. You'll find me sitting in front of my fire, sipping green tea with burdock root and watching skidder videos, or playing cribbage with Wendy.
This too shall pass,
God bless you,
Your Brother,
Jack
